Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about our cable installation works. If you can’t find what you need, please get in touch.

How long will works take?

The works will be carried out in phases along the route. This means activity will move from one section to the next, rather than taking place across the whole route at the same time.

The overall programme will depend on final permits, construction sequencing and conditions encountered beneath the highway. More detailed timing will be provided for each phase before works begin in that area.

How will I be notified?

Residents, businesses and other local occupiers affected by the works will be notified in advance.

This may include letters or leaflets, on-street signage, website updates, and direct contact with affected businesses, building managers or other stakeholders where needed.

Where the programme changes, updates will be provided as soon as the team is able to.

What notice will I be given?

We aim to provide at least two weeks’ advance notice before works begin in each area.

Where parking suspensions, temporary traffic arrangements or access changes are required, these will also be clearly signed on the street. Some details may depend on final permit approvals and local highway requirements, so the exact notice period may vary by location.

Who can I speak to?

You can contact the project team using the details provided on this website and on local notification materials.

The team will respond to enquiries about the works, including questions about timing, access, parking, traffic management and local disruption.

For urgent safety matters on site, please speak to a member of the site team or use the contact details displayed on site signage.

Why are these works necessary?

The works are needed to install essential electrical infrastructure beneath the highway.

This infrastructure will help support London’s power network and respond to growing demand from homes, businesses and services. The route has been planned to connect into existing infrastructure, while managing disruption as far as reasonably possible.

What will the operating hours be?

Working hours will be agreed with the relevant highway authorities and may vary depending on the location and phase of works.

Typical working hours are expected to be during the daytime from Monday to Friday, with Saturday working where required and approved. Sunday or overnight working would only take place where agreed in advance or required for safety or operational reasons.

What order will the works be completed in?

The works will be completed in phases.

This helps limit disruption by focusing construction activity on defined sections of the route. Once a section is complete and safe to reopen, works will move to the next section.

Phase plans and maps will be shared as the programme progresses.

What traffic and construction management will be in place?

Traffic management will be agreed with the relevant highway authorities before works begin.

This may include temporary lane restrictions, parking suspensions, traffic lights, signed diversions or short road closures where needed. Any arrangements will be designed to maintain safety and manage disruption as far as possible.

Pedestrian access will be maintained wherever possible, with signed footway diversions where required.

Will there be road closures?

Some temporary road closures may be needed to complete the works safely.

Closures will only be used where required and will be agreed through the relevant highway approvals process. Where diversions are needed, they will be clearly signed.

Each section will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

Will parking be affected?

Some parking bays may need to be temporarily suspended while works take place nearby.

Suspensions will be phased and kept to the minimum area and duration needed to complete the works safely. Affected bays will be clearly signed in advance, and parking will be reinstated as works move on.

Will bus routes or stops change?

Bus services are expected to continue, but temporary changes to bus stops or routes may be needed in some locations.

Where this is required, the project team will work with Transport for London, the relevant highway authorities and operators to confirm arrangements. Any temporary changes will be communicated and signposted where needed.

Will footways remain open?

Pedestrian access will be maintained wherever possible.

Where temporary footway diversions are required, they will be clearly signed. Safe access to homes, businesses and local services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

Will emergency services still have access?

Yes. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works.

Traffic management arrangements will be planned with this requirement in mind, and site teams will manage access where needed.

Will bin collections be affected?

No impact on bin collections is currently expected.

If temporary changes are required in a specific location, the project team will work with the relevant council teams and affected properties to manage this.

Will my utilities be affected?

No interruption to existing utility services is currently expected as part of these works.

If any planned service interruption becomes necessary, affected properties will be notified in advance by the relevant utility provider or project team.

Will there be noise or dust?

Some noise and dust are unavoidable during construction works, particularly during excavation, reinstatement and use of machinery.

The project team will seek to minimise disruption through appropriate construction management measures. These may include monitoring noise, controlling dust, damping down where needed, and using acoustic barriers or other mitigation where appropriate.

What equipment will be used?

The works will use standard construction equipment, including excavation machinery, road saws, compactors, delivery vehicles and supporting site equipment.

Equipment will vary depending on the phase of works and local highway conditions.

How will businesses be affected?

Businesses will remain accessible wherever possible.

Where works are taking place close to business frontages, the project team will seek to provide advance notice and discuss any specific access, servicing or delivery requirements.

How can I stay updated?

Updates will be provided through this website as the works progress.

Further local notifications will be provided where works affect a specific street, group of properties or business area.
